Overview
Elder Care projects INR 0.19 Million distributed among 180 seniors uphold dignity and belonging for the growing aged population. We support daily living, medical attention, social engagement, and basic needs, recognizing elders as precious reservoirs of wisdom and tradition.
The challenge
India is home to over 14 crore elderly citizens, projected to reach 34.7 crore by 2050. Yet, 70% remain financially dependent, and only 29% receive pensions. Chronic illnesses like hypertension and diabetes are widespread, while mental health issues and isolation are rising especially among elderly women, 18.7% of whom live alone. With just 1,000 old-age homes and 270 geriatricians nationwide, many seniors face persistent threats to healthcare, housing, and emotional well-being. As family networks shift and migration leaves elders unsupported, society must evolve to meet their nuanced needs.
Strategic approach
We collaborate with elder care homes and support networks for direct aid, medical camps, and recreational activities. Regular check-ins, feedback collection, and ongoing adaptations refine impact. Annapoorani Foundation aspires to influence the norms and policies around aging advocating age-friendly infrastructure, financial security, and respect for elders in every community.
Highlights - Employee Led Giving & Engagement
Alongside donations from our charity, we invited our employees to contribute personally to the Dignity Home for Senior Citizens in Chennai, India. Their response was deeply moving. Employees not only donated essentials like clothes, food, and bedding, but also visited the home to hand over these items directly to the residents. More than just giving, they spent meaningful time with the elders sharing conversations, laughter, and warmth. This experience created a powerful connection and inspired many to continue supporting such causes on their own. It reminded us that compassion grows stronger when it’s shared face to face.
