Overview
Through Government Donation Drives, Annapoorani Foundation channeled more than INR 0.36 Million for disaster response and large-scale emergencies, reaching nearly 375 people affected by natural calamities or social crises. These drives leverage crowd-giving and partnership with state authorities to mobilize resources rapidly during critical times.
The challenge
Major emergencies from floods and pandemics to regional unrest continue to stretch India’s disaster response systems. According to national reports, over 30 million people are affected by floods annually, and 59% of the country’s landmass is vulnerable to earthquakes.
In such moments, vulnerable communities including low-income families, persons with disabilities, and the elderly face disproportionate risks. Access to shelter, clean water, medical aid, and food becomes uncertain. Relief efforts often struggle with coordination, timely delivery, and equitable distribution. Language barriers, lack of documentation, and remote geography further complicate outreach.
Strategic approach
By forming public-private partnerships and actively participating in task forces, Annapoorani Foundation enhances efficiency and reach. Resources are gathered from individuals, corporate partners, and community donors for transparency and scale. Post-distribution audits and impact assessments validate results and provide learnings for future interventions, contributing to resilience planning and disaster preparedness protocols.
Highlights
In the wake of the Uttarakhand flash floods on June 19, 2013, entire communities were devastated by sudden cloudbursts and landslides. Homes, roads, and livelihoods were swept away, leaving survivors in urgent need of shelter, food, and medical care. Annapoorani Foundation’s contribution supported relief efforts that reached displaced families with essential supplies and emergency aid during this critical time.
Earlier, during the COVID-19 outbreak that began in India on January 30, 2020, the nation faced an unprecedented public health emergency. Lockdowns, overwhelmed hospitals, and economic disruption left vulnerable populations struggling. Our donation to the CM CARES Fund helped provide protective gear, food kits, and medical support to those most affected reinforcing our commitment to stand with communities in crisis.
